Two views of chat ( there are more):

View 1: Chat is universally supposed to be fun! Our kind of fun. Private is just more fun. And it's good for business. Whisper conflicts with this.

View 2: Chat is not so much fun. It is a bunch of adults accomodating their different tastes and interests by politely taking turns asking questions, making brief banter with other members perhaps, but there either window shopping or ready to buy. The model is the focus, despite appearances, and it is a place of business and only a place of business. The whisper appeals to some just like the foot fetish appeals to some. Nobody denigrates the fetish that he doesn't understand because all are in an inclusive frame of mind. There is some satisfaction and pride in being a part of an enlightened society of this kind that is felt to be superior to other lesser, and less inclusive, views of reality.

Nobody for the whisper is trying to deny someone else a fetish. Make no mistake about who is inclusive and who is tyrannical in this debate.

abolishonist = irritated by other guy's fetish. makes noise. restricts freedom.

whisperer = innocent bystander

I am neither for or agaist whispering :twocents

I think when it comes back - it should be under model's control .
Set off as default for the new models who cannot change settings on performer application until they learn a little or play with the srttings .

Allow the model to set and approve each member they want to whisper . Allow free use of whisper to the members the model wants to use it .
The model can also turn off whisper by individual or for all .

Whisper can and has been a useful tool .
If the model has control over who and if they want whisper - they should be able to control thier room :twocents

I would hate to see a loss of many top members who utilize whisper .

I think the site will collect data this 2 weeks without whisper . The results hopefully will be shared in this topic later .
I hope the models have final choice if they want whisper :twocents

I thought whispering was one of ur better features compared to other sites. Please do not remove it. There are times i like to tell something to the model privately without having the whole world read it.

Well the 1st day of trial is over, and in the many random chat rooms I was in during the day I didnt hear one person say, "Oh thank god whispers are gone", I did hear more members than I can count and 3 different models BIOTCH about the lack of whispers in some way or form.

I even saw a private fall apart in a minute because a whisper couldnt be used for instant gratification to check if the members "kinks" were acceptable to the models. Yes I know, use the mail client that F4F provided....dude we want to get our rocks off, you think we are going to wait for someone to acknowledge their "You Got Mail" button? That could take a whole 5 minutes.....

p.s. "kinks" is by no means a judgement on my part, I just find it less stigmatizing a word than "fetish".

AMEN, I agree completely. No, wait Dudley you can't use logic here. :orglaugh

A few other posters mentioned, greasing the squeaky wheel. Those who don't like something are usually the ones to raise an issue. I am always surprised when the authority, in this case VS management, says, "we received all these negative comments for (blank) and none in support." That's because people generally don't comment if they like something. (Maybe we should be more positive and write Brad and the others when something is great and enjoyed.) They simply go with the flow. This thread is a good example. What appears to be the once quiet majority is now speaking up and telling the site, it made a bad decision. Even some non-whisper supporters said they didn't want whispering removed completely, albeit for two weeks, at the moment. They suggested some regulations, another bad idea.

I don't see why regulations need to be put in place other than letting the models regulate their own rooms. I have NEVER been in a room and ignored by a model in deference to a whisperer. My experience has never been lessened by a whisperer because the models tend to all guests evenly or they tell the chronic whisperer to stop. So to those who say they are ignored I am curious, who are these models that ignore you and if they regularly ignore WHY do you keep going to those rooms? Further, why do all sensible whisperers have to be penalized/regulated because you choose to go to rooms where you get ignored? If I were ignored as has been described I wouldn't return to that room. A model can't be all that great if they neglect potential clients.

Lastly, I forget who posted the comment and don't want to misrepresent another poster so I will simply mention the comment. They replied to someone else who liked to whipser a personal or private question to the models. In the reply the poster stated that the model will either type or speak a response and the question is no longer secret. To that I say not necessarily. The whisper/question can be tailored to receive a yes or no answer or the model can be equally deft and reply creatively some other way. Answers of yes and no don't reveal anything except to the asker.

So Brad, please take from the above when these two weeks are finished I hope you keep the whisper feature and its usage free to all who wish to use it. (Do we really need more regulations in this day and age?) If VS deems to place a regulation please let its implementation rest in the hands of the models. Thank you.

Like anything, whispering can be abused by customers. However, banning it arbitrarily is ludicrous. Give the model the choice in his or her room. I understand there are perhaps times when there is apparently no chat in a room and whispering is occurring, but to some degree the whispering itself can be fun - sometimes embarrassing when you use a question mark rather than a slash - but banning it? Let's not take ourselves too seriously.

not even 24 hours into no whisper mode and looks like at least 3 pages of posts saying it is a bad move, I wonder what it will take to get Brad's attention

I hope we all know the answer to this. This ban on whispering decision is a business decision. Posting your unhappiness on a forum is one thing. Showing that you are unhappy with this business decision by not spending money or time on the site is another. (sorry to all of my model friends but most understand)

As someone else posted earlier - protest with your wallet. That is the one sure way to get Brad's (and the rest of VS) attention!

Please end this experiment NOW. It turns out that once certain customers can't whisper their fantasies, they just share them in open chat where, unfortunately, the model is compelled to respond. Even worse, I have to read it. Such chat is not the stuff of witty, flirtatious banter. It's predictable, low-rent, masturbatory banality. Enough already.

That's the utopia answer, but singularly, it doesn't work. As posts go, I'm a rather infrequent contributor considering I've been around here some 7 years. That's a 7 year spending record as well. I doubt seriously much attention is paid to my spending habits, or things would have changed in other directions already. I'm afraid it takes an entire group effort and that just isn't likely to happen.

I disagree with your thinking that your or my spending habits are not paid attention to by VS. I remember promotions being targeted to specific members/users that had stopped spending money on the site (remember the uproar from the promotion last April??). Clearly VS is aware of who is spending and who is not.

Brad, please don't let this go 2 weeks. Members and models will most likely find other ways to "whisper" that will be against VS policy. You have allowed the models to have twitter acounts and this could be used as an alternative for whispering. Do you really want the models to take there attention away from there rooms for any length of time to respond to what could be whisper tweets? Now that could cause a problem. :twocents

I am sure they pay attention to spending habits they have a tool we can use to search what we spend for any given month. I would be willing to make a wager they know how much I spend and am not going to spend here now. I realize my $100 @week average in 2011 is a drop in the bucket by it's self but drops fill the bucket in the end. I guess the bucket will be one drop less than full now.

I agree with this. Your spending habits are noticed.

Run a conglomerate or corporate business ~ they don't have the time, nor here, with the volume of users, the need, to concern themselves with the single individual. Brad refers to "the data": that's the extent of it - a data base.

But to the issue at hand...

I've said this elsewhere; I don't care - whisper away. On it's merits it's a good feature.
If a model wants to talk to me,

with 103 chatters in one window
and five instant messaging windows open at the same time

they will; and if they don't, they won't. It's about that simple.
There have been models that are really good at it and that's when whispers went both ways. The industry has become easier: people less business savvy have success ... but I've always felt, and will continue to, that 4, 5 - 10 years ago models had to work harder and smarter to be successful. Cruel as it may be, they adapted or got run over. Being '19 - 25' and pretty was only part of the pre-requisite. That no longer seems to be par for the course.
